The investment of the decade
Here's a sobering thought, especially if you've been drinking too much Lafite. A report in The Guardian showed that top Bordeaux has been the best investment since 2000, above all else. 1982 Lafite is tops (thanks to the Chinese) rising a mere 876%. We said ‘let's invest in Bordeaux' ten years ago, so we were almost right.

Champagne Charlies
Bollinger at £17.95? Moët for fourteen quid? Yes please. Les directeurs de marketing must be hopping mad as the big UK retailers scrap over the prices for cheap Champagne. Our advice is not to fall for the pseudo ‘50% off this crap you've never heard of' - unless recommended by a wine writer you have heard of.

‘A truly historic vintage'
So said Robert Parker, and Jancis Robinson also wrote last month ‘my advice is to hoover up the delicious 2007s while you can'. No, not Bordeaux - the southern Rhône. We liked Château Maucoil so much at a show in June, we bought up the stock - it's a juicy red from a family estate and perfect this Christmas. £7.99 a bottle in cases of 6.
